Morgan Stanley Constructing Energy Saving Solar Field

Several months after receiving permission from the Harrison Town Board to install a ground mounted solar field, Morgan Stanley has begun construction on the 821kW field, and hopes to have it in place by the end of summer.

The idea was born out of a desire to decrease the company's energy consumption and to become more environmentally sustainable, said Tricia Nestfield, vice president of corporate communications for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.

"About a year and a half ago, the team investigated the feasibility of a solar project at our 2000 Westchester facility which could support 20-25 percent of the facility demand load with the solar system at full capacity," she said.

This will be the first Morgan Stanley location to utilize the solar field, however, the company may consider expanding to other corporate locales if the program performs well, said Nestfield.

But this isn't the first time the company has supported efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

"The firm annually celebrates Global Sustainability Month each March: a time for employees to explore the concept of sustainability across a variety of areas — from the natural environment to the financial sector and society at large," said Nestfield.
