New CVS Store Open for Business

The new CVS store on Halstead Avenue held its soft opening on Sunday.

The brand new CVS store on Halstead Avenue held its soft opening on Sunday, in the location next to Dunkin' Donuts that had remained vacant for two years. The official grand opening is set for August 8 and the store opens early at 7 a.m.

Town Supervisor/Mayor Joan Walsh said that the new store will definitely boost business and the economy in downtown Harrison.

"It's been a long wait and we look forward to the shoppers and business it will bring to the downtown area and we wish them well," said Walsh.  "It's been maybe two years that they've been paying rent and it hadn't been open but it's good not to have a dead spot there."

She had no comment as to whether most of whom are restaurants.

Store Manager Alexis Nunez hired most of the staff for the new Harrison store.

"It would definitely help with the job market here," Nunez said.

Harrison resident Shannon French was just leaving the CVS store with a bag in her hand.

"I think it's good—it offers stuff all in one place rather than having to go to a few different stores," she said. "I guess people could go to Mamaroneck but many don't want to go too far. I would definitely come here again but the only thing I don't like is it's not open as late."

Angela Allegretti, also of Harrison, said she also expected to use the store. "I think the service has been really good so far ... they've had some issues but they've been really attentive.  It's very convenient and hopefully it will bring good things to Harrison."
