Presidents' Days Trash Schedule Changes: Harrison Mayor
Plus town sustainability committee, wintertime fireplace safety and the next Lunch with the Mayor

From the Mayor and Town Hall
As winter reaches its midpoint, I would like to bring your attention to fireplace safety. During this time of year, our local fire departments often respond to calls regarding fireplace mishaps. To prevent fires, the U.S. Fire Administration advises that chimneys and woodstoves receive regular inspection and cleaning by certified specialists. It is also important to insure that all chimneys are covered with a mesh screen to prevent lighted ash from floating out of the chimney and onto to nearby rooftops. If you need additional assistance, call your local fire department for more information.
Harrison residents who have an interest in addressing environmental concerns in our community, are invited to join our sustainability committee. The goal will be to identify policies and practices that will improve and protect the environment. If interested, please call my office at 670-3005 and join up.

The ongoing program involves reading articles, watching videos and meeting in a group to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today. Great things are happening in Harrison; Development projects in the works, a Moody’s triple A rating, an up-tick in the median sale price of Harrison’s single family homes, just to name a few. Let’s keep our town moving forward. Any ideas (big or small) for improvement or any concerns are welcomed at all times. Feel free to contact my office as I am eager to help serve the needs of residents in any way I can.
The next “Lunch with the Mayor” is on Friday, February 15th. I will be at Lago located at 97 Lake Street in West Harrison. I will be at this location from 12:30 to 1:30 and look forward to meeting with residents and talking about issues facing our community.
