Shipping Deadlines Looming for Harrison Christmas 2016

Deadlines for the Postal Service, FedEx and UPS are coming up fast in Westchester.

HARRISON, NY — There is still a little time if you have cards and gifts to send to far-flung family members this Christmas. The United States Postal Service, along with private carriers, will help you ship gifts all across the country, as long as you pay attention to the deadlines.

About 16 billion pieces of mail, including 750 million packages, will be delivered this holiday season, the Postal Service said. That's a 12 percent increase in volume compared to last year. To meet demand, the agency is hiring more than 35,000 seasonal employees to help process and deliver cards and packages.

Items will be delivered seven days a week by post office carriers, and more than 5 million packages are expected to be delivered each Sunday in December. Mail carriers will also deliver packages on Christmas Day in some locations.
