Small Business Spotlight: Junk King Tri County

This new company's three counties are Fairfield, Putnam and Westchester.

Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this exciting series — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

Today, meet Tom McCabe of Junk King Tri County.

  1. How did you come up with the name? We came up with the name to best describe the territory. Tri-county, Fairfield County in CT and Westchester and Putnam Counties in NY.
  2. Why start a business in this town? It is geographically close to where I live so I am familiar with the area. Having lived and worked in the area for over a decade I have many contacts in this area. In addition Junk King is an eco-friendly business and we support our communities so what better way to support my local community. Additionally, there is a neighboring Junk King territory so we should have some built in brand recognition from day one.
  3. What business are you in? Junk removal.
  4. What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner? The biggest challenge when starting a new business is navigating the necessary paper work and red tape necessary to get the business set up.
  5. What’s been your proudest achievement since opening? Hiring 3 great, local employees!
  6. How does your business give back to the community? We give back in several ways. We recycle or donate 65% of the unwanted items we collect from residences and businesses. This reduces our footprint and keeps items our of the local landfills. Many of the items we collect are still in good shape and can be used versus being thrown out. We donate much of what we have to local non profits.
