Stolen Car Collides With Police Car, NJ Men Arrested After Foot Chase

HARRISON, NY — Two New Jersey men were arrested over the weekend after they fled from officers in a stolen car, collided with a police car near the Hutchinson River Parkway and ran off into a wooded area, according to Harrison police.

At 11:20 p.m., on Friday, Harrison officers responded to a report that several men were seen getting out of a car and walking into driveways in the area of Shelly Lane and Stonewall Circle. While canvassing the area, an officer located the suspect vehicle, a BMW sedan, on White Deer Lane and saw a man run back to the vehicle from a driveway.

When the officer attempted to stop the BMW, the driver sped away. The driver made his way to Purchase Street where he collided with a Harrison police vehicle near the Hutchinson River Parkway. The occupants of the BMW then jumped out and ran off into a wooded area near the highway.

After a brief search, HPD took two suspects into custody and continued to search for two more. Westchester County Police patrol officers, Aviation Units and Canine Units joined the search, but the two remaining suspects managed to elude the multi-agency dragnet.

Investigators later learned the BMW had been stolen at 10:30 p.m. in New Jersey. Police also discovered that one of the suspects had stolen a car at 6:42 p.m. in Harrison. That vehicle was recovered in East Orange, New Jersey.

The driver of the BMW, Tyris Scott was charged with criminal felony possession of stolen property and grand larceny. The 20 year-old from Newark was also charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Police said he was also cited for 20 violations.

Assmaamad Williams, 19, of Newark, was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

Both New Jersey men were booked at Harrison Police Department headquarters and released after arraignment without bail.

Police Chief John Vasta commended the residents who reported the suspicious activity and urged homeowners to promptly report any signs of suspicious activity.
