SWBOCES Adult Learning Center to Offer Array of "Career Starter" Classes
The SWBOCES Adult & Community Service Center is offering a host of classes for adults in our area this fall.

The SWBOCES Center for Adult and Community Services is offering a wide range of “Career Starter” courses this fall that are ideal for professionals seeking advancement and up-to-date certification in their careers, for others who may be seeking new occupations, as well as new immigrants looking to perfect their English language capabilities or update their skills for the American workforce.
In addition to preparing Westchester residents for employment in a number of growing sectors and boosting their earning power, the Center is also looking to 21st century job and work trends by providing a number of new courses.
They include the 10-week Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management class that will help budding entrepreneurs turn their personal interest hobby into a money making venture and the Dynamic Social Media for Personal and Professional Use course that will teach participants how to increase their customer base and business profits by using popular social media platforms.

Talented DIYers can avail of the Center’s course titled DIY – Home Maintenance 1 and DIY – Home Maintenance 2. Students will learn how to change a faucet, solder a copper pipe, install vinyl or ceramic tile, complete basic carpentry tasks and much more.
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certificate courses are also being offered for construction professionals, in addition to the Certified Occupational Safety Specialist®, a collaboration between BOCES and Candela Systems Corporation.

More in-depth programs on offer include the intensive Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Heating (HVAC) course that is being offered during the day at the BOCES Center for Career Services campus in Valhalla. Students who enroll in the full-time 10-week program will be eligible to take the EPA’s national certification exam, qualifying them for work in this fast-growing industry.
One of the Center’s most popular adult offerings is its Practical Nursing Program, which is available to students as an accelerated day or regular day/evening option. The program begins Aug. 30 and runs through June.
Other in-demand programs offered at the Center’s Harrison location include its Nurse Assistant Training program, its Introduction to Medical Terminology course, as well as classes for students interested in becoming dental assistants, dialysis technicians and pharmacy technicians, to name a few.
