Veterans Day 2017: What's Open And Closed In Harrison

Veterans Day falls on a Saturday this year, so many agencies and organizations are observing the holiday on Friday.

HARRISON, NY — The nation will be honoring the men and women who have served in the military on Veterans Day Saturday, Nov. 11. While Saturday is the actual date, because it falls on the weekend this year, the federal government is observing it on Friday, Nov. 10. As a result, many state and local governments and schools will be closed on Friday also.

Federal offices that are non-essential will be closed Friday, as will New York State government offices.

Post offices will be open on Friday, but closed on Saturday. There will be no mail delivery on Saturday.

Banks have the option of closing for Veterans Day. TD Bank will be open, for example, but Bank of America's financial centers will be closed on Saturday. Call before you head out to do your banking.

The stock market will be open on Friday.

Retail establishments will likely be open since holidays have become times for sales. Again, it's best to call ahead to be sure the store you are going to will be open.

Harrison Town offices are closed. Garbage normally collected on Friday, November 10th will be suspended.

Schools are closed. The Harrison Library is open 1-5 p.m.
