Weather Alert: Ice Causes NY Thruway Closure, I-287 Accidents

The New York State Thruway is closed southbound from Newburgh to the New York City line, state police said at 9:06AM.

Multiple car accidents are reported on I-287.

Due to freezing rain and severe icing conditions, Bee-Line and Paratransit bus service is delayed, Westchester County officials said at 8:43AM. Service will resume when the temperature rises, and the road conditions improve.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory until 11 AM today for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Periods of rain, freezing rain and drizzle with below-freezing rain today will cause icy conditions on roads and sidewalks. Drive slowly.

Standing water left over from today’s rain or freezing rain could refreeze and cause ice on untreated roads overnight.
