Yaseen Lecture Series presents: Internationally-Renowned Artist Fred Wilson in Conversation with Paul Kaplan, Purchase College Professor of Art History

Where: Purchase College Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:30 pm.

Every two years, the Neuberger Museum of Art of Purchase College offers the Yaseen Lecture Series, which brings acclaimed scholars and artists to the Purchase College campus to discuss their work and address contemporary ideas and issues. The lectures, which began in 1974, were endowed by the late Leonard C. Yaseen and his wife Helen, former residents of Larchmont, who financed a similar series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Featured speakers have included Claes Oldenburg, Maya Angelou, Faith Ringgold, and Chuck Close.

On Tuesday, April 8, at 6:30 pm, this year’s Yaseen Lecture will feature noted artist and Purchase College alumnus Fred Wilson, who is well-known for his site-specific installations which demonstrate how context can alter an object's meaning. In addition to numerous exhibitions and accolades, Mr. Wilson represented the United States in the 2003 Venice Biennale with his project Speak of Me as I Am. Paul Kaplan, Purchase College professor of Art History, worked closely with the artist on the project as a historical consultant.  During this conversation, Mr. Wilson and Professor Kaplan will explore the collaborative roles museums, artists and art historians play in using objects and art works to create meaning.

Prior to the lecture, there will be a Members-Only Reception at 5:00 pm at the Neuberger Museum of Art. Light refreshments will be served. Purchase College students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend.
