2 Teens Charged In Connection With Beating Man, 73, Collecting Bottles In Hauppauge: Police

HAUPPAUGE, NY — An 18-year-old man and 17-year-old male have been arrested in connection with beating a man collecting bottles in Hauppauge on Tuesday, Suffolk police said.

The scene unfolded after Keeghan Lynch, 18, along with two 17-year-old males, approached a 73-year-old Hauppauge man, who was collecting bottles in the parking lot at Bolla Market on Route 111, at around 3:40 p.m., according to police.

The 17-year-olds then struck the man with a bottle, and then punched and kicked him, and after the assault, they fled in a white Chevrolet Trailblazer with NY license plate MJL
2703, police said.

The man was later taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The same Trailblazer stopped in front of a location on Lisa Court in Shirley, where one of the 17-year-old males, who was involved in the Hauppauge assault, demanded that a 67-year-old man riding an e-scooter give it to him, at around 4:45 p.m., but he refused, fled, and called 911, police said.

After an investigation by the 4th Squad in Hauppauge, the 17-year-old was arrested and charged with third-degree attempted robbery, second-degree assault: intent to cause physical injury with a weapon/instrument, and second-degree assault: injure victim 65 or older - defendant at least 10 years
younger.

He is scheduled for arraignment at the Youth Part of First District Court.

Lynch was later arrested at his home in Remsenburg at around 8:37 p.m. He was charged with second-degree assault: intent to cause physical injury with weapon/instrument, and sec second-degree assault: injure victim 65 or older - defendant at least 10 years younger.

He was set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

The investigation is continuing, police said.

The other 17-year-old male involved in the assault in Hauppauge has been identified by police, but has not yet been apprehended, according to police.
