HAUPPAUGE, NY — The reward in a disturbing animal cruelty investigation in Hauppauge has been increased as authorities continue searching for the person responsible, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.
SPCA officials said Wednesday a reward of up to $7,500 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people involved.
Investigators said multiple geese were intentionally struck by a vehicle during nighttime hours along Wireless Boulevard, with incidents typically occurring between about 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The first reported case happened on April 4 around 10 p.m. in front of 375 Wireless Boulevard, officials said.
Video footage captured April 15 at around 9:50 p.m. shows a white Jeep Grand Cherokee deliberately hitting several geese in the same area, according to investigators. On that same night, two additional geese were struck near 100 Wireless Boulevard.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle is believed to be a late-model white Jeep Grand Cherokee. Investigators noted the driver appears to return to the area and slow down when spotting geese, behavior they said suggests the acts were intentional and repeated.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. Calls will be kept confidential.
