Tractor-Trailer Fire Erupts On Veterans Highway In Islandia: FD

All occupants exited safely before crews arrived, fire officials say.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — A tractor-trailer fire sent thick smoke billowing over Veterans Highway in Islandia as firefighters worked to bring the intense blaze under control Thursday, fire officials said.

The Hauppauge Fire Department responded around 3:59 p.m. to a truck fire in the area of 1440 Veterans Highway, where fire crews encountered a fully involved vehicle fire, according to the department.

All occupants safely exited the truck prior to firefighters arriving on scene, officials said.

Firefighters advanced hose lines and worked in heavy smoke conditions to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading.

Crews worked quickly to apply water and bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
