1. New Ranking Of Long Island's Top 15 Public High Schools Released By U.S. News (patch.com) — Hauppauge residents can celebrate that Hauppauge High School ranks 15th in New York and 1,683rd nationally in U.S. News & World Report's latest Best High Schools list. The report compares Long Island schools using test performance, graduation rates, AP participation, and outcomes, highlighting how strongly several nearby districts are performing.
2. 18-year-old man and 17-year-old male arrested for assault (trihamletnews.com) — Police say a 73-year-old Hauppauge man collecting bottles at the Bolla Market on Route 111 was assaulted on August 11, and two teens have now been arrested. A third teen suspect tied to the Hauppauge attack and a later attempted robbery in Shirley remains at large, and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Fourth Squad.
3. Four-Time Felony Drunk Driving Migrant Detained by ICE After Being Caught Driving Again (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Hauppauge-based Suffolk County prosecutors say a man with multiple prior felony DWI convictions was detained by federal immigration authorities after investigators allegedly found him driving again despite a court order. Officials describe how he was recently convicted in Southampton, stopped in Riverhead, and is now in ICE custody while Suffolk County seeks to return him for sentencing this fall.
4. State court orders permit for Holtsville battery plant (newsday.com) — Hauppauge is home to one of two LIPA-contracted battery plants now stalled amid widespread Long Island moratoriums, even as a court just ordered Suffolk County to permit a separate Holtsville facility. The ruling, ongoing appeals, and new state safety rules could shape how and whether large battery projects near local communities, including Hauppauge, eventually move forward.
