On February 20, 2016 and February 27, 2016, from 8:00am to12:30pm, boys Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 343 (Hauppauge) and Webelos Cub Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 328 (Hauppauge), teamed up with the “Peanut Butter Gangs Hospitality Too” Soup Kitchen located at St. Anne’s Church in Brentwood. The scouts assisted with serving food to the community’s needy family members as well as joining in with the making of Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, packing bags of breads and cakes and distributing the bags to the guests, and cleaning up the community room where they’d served the lunches.
Coordinated by Boy Scout Troop 343 Assistant Scoutmaster Maureen Massa on February 20th, the Boy Scouts who helped out were Paul Massa, Scott Petersen, Ryan DiSilvio, and Ian McAlister. High School students Michael Petersen and Ryan Riepi also donated their time. On February 27th, Troop 343 Committee Member Susan Burns was assisted by Boy Scouts Chris Burns, Gary Chin, Andrew Vermillion, Robert Vermillion, Mike Piazza, Darius Bobelis, and Liam Maggio. Webelo Scouts from Pack 328 Ryan O’Connor, Rory Maggio, Ryan Capese, and Dylan Salsido had been invited to assist the Boy Scout Troop 343 members by their Den Chiefs Chris Burns and Gary Chin. (Den Chiefs are the youths in Boy Scouts who assist the Den Leaders).
Explained Troop 343 parent coordinators Susan Burns and Maureen Massa, “The Scouts were great! So were the parents and leaders. This was a great opportunity for the scouts to earn community service but more importantly to give back to those less fortunate than themselves.”
