Eagles Scoreboard: Girls Lacrosse, Baseball Start the Season Strong
The Lady Eagles win back-to-back games by large margin; baseball goes 2-for-3 in opening series.

The Hauppauge varsity spring sports season is in full swing with most teams playing multiple games. Here’s an early look at how the Eagles are starting off their season:
Girls Lacrosse: The Hauppauge girls lacrosse team is off to a strong start, claiming decisive back-to-back wins. This gets the team off to an impressive 4-0 start to their league season.
Attacker Taylor Ranftle lead Hauppauge’s offense against Miller Place on April 6, scoring 7 goals in the 14-2 win. Goalkeeper Lisa Vedernikova had a strong performance with 6 saves, keeping Miller Place’s offense in check.

On April 8, the Lady Eagles beat Huntington, 19-12. Christine Rienzo showed skill on the field winning 10 draws for the Lady Eagles. Jennifer Porretto scored 4 goals with 6 assists, followed by Lauren Descalzo with 3 goals and two assists.

Baseball: The Eagles baseball team opened their season with a three-game series against Harborfields. Hauppauge won the matchup, winning two of the three games. The Eagles started off with. This was followed by another large 8-2 win on April 6. Mike Napolitano led Hauppauge’s offense, going 3-for-4 at bat with 2 RBIs. C.J. Shildt went 2-for-3 with a walk.
The teams will play two non-league games this week, facing Patchogue-Medford on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and traveling to take on their neighboring rival Smithtown West at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Boys Lacrosse: The Hauppauge boys lacrosse team is struggling to find its stride this season. The Eagles beat Kings Park, 10-3, on April 5. Junior Chris Jacovino scored 3 goals and 4 assists to lead the offense. Goalkeeper Tyler Donovan made 13 saves, shutting down Kings Park in the first half.
Hauppauge couldn't keep its momentum going, losing 11-8 to Eastport-South Manor on April 8. The Eagles hope to rebound when they host Islip on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Softball: The Hauppauge varsity softball team is off to a rocky start, going 3-2 to start its season. On April 6, Hauppauge took down Islip, 8-2. Pitcher Nicole Ehlinger controlled the game from the mound with 14 strikeouts. Kristie Capuano led the offense going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs.
The Lady Eagles will host Harborfields at 4 p.m. Monday at home, followed by Shoreham-Wading River on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
