Employee Stole From Hauppauge Company After Owner Died: Police

Police say the employee wrote checks to her boyfriend's business after the owner of Paragon Advertising died.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — A Deer Park woman was arrested Thursday after police said she stole more than $7,000 from a Hauppauge business after the company’s owner died.

Precious Ortiz, 34, an employee of Paragon Advertising on Corporate Drive, wrote two checks totaling $7,032 to her boyfriend’s business after the owner of Paragon Advertising died on Feb. 26, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Ortiz falsified company records to make it appear the checks were written to a vendor of the business.
