Globecomm Gets $14.5M Contract, Hauppauge Digital Reports Loss and Orbit Gets Contract, Changes Management

Globecomm wins $14.5 million contract
Hauppauge-based , a provider of satellite-based managed network solutions, announced it has received an eight-month $7.3 million contract from a government prime contractor.
Under the contract, Globecomm will provide engineering services, managed satellite and terrestrial communications, connectivity and life-cycle support services to a prime contract who is responsible for a communications network. It contains two six-month options, which if exercised, would bring the total contract's value up to $14.5 million.

"Globecomm is looking forward to supporting our customer by leveraging Globecomm's combined capabilities of satellite, wireless and terrestrial communications know-how to help deliver a complex network to the end customer," said Dwight Hunsicker, Globecomm's vice presidents of Government Business Development, in a press statement.
Hauppauge Digital reports fiscal loses in 2010

l announced Friday its financial losses in 2010's fourth quarter and year end.
The Hauppauge-based developer of digital video TV and data broadcast received products for personal computers reported net sales of $11.6 million for the fourth quarter of the 2010 fiscal year, down from $16.3 million in the previous year. The company's net loss was $1,524,352 for the fourth quarter, resulting in a lose of 15 center per share.
Hauppauge Digital's reported net sales of $56.9 million for the 2010 fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2010. This was reportedly down from $59.3 million in sales reported for the 2009 fiscal year. The net lose per share was 0.18 center over the year, significant less than the $0.71 per share reported in 2009.
"Contributing to the decline in sales in 2010 were very weak sales to personal computer manufacturers. In 2011, we expect the weakened state of the global economy to still be a factor, especially in relation to our sales in Europe," said Ken Plotkin, Hauppauge's chief executive officer in a news release.
Orbit receives $800,000 order from U.S. Navy
Hauppauge-based electronics manufacturer announced last week it received an $800,000 order from the U.S. Navy and expects more orders in 2011.
The U.S. Navy's orders were for displays for the machine control system on the U.S. Navy's CVN 78 class of super aircraft carries. When combined with orders received earlier this year, it brings Orbit's total contract up to $2.1 million in 2010.
"We are very proud of our associated with, and contribution to, the CVN 78. Based upon the Navy's long-term plans for 11 such aircraft carriers, we look forward to receiving additional display over the next several years," said Mitchel Binder, Orbit's executive vice president said in a press release.
The company has already said it expects to receive an additional $300,000 - $400,000 in display orders from the Navy in the first quarter of 2011. The units are being manufacturer out of the company's Instrumental Division facility in Hauppauge with deliveries continuing through the second quarter of 2012.
Orbit announces change in management
Orbit International announced on Dec. 22 that they would not renew the employment contract of its President and CEO Dennis Sunshine, terminating his employment on Dec. 31, 2010. As a result, Sunshine was required to resign from the company's Board of Directors.
Mitchell Binder, formerly the executive vice president and chief financial officer, was named Orbit's new CEO. He has been with the company since 1983, serving in positions from treasures, assistant secretary to vice presidents of finance since 1986, and executive vice president since 2006.
David Goldman was named acting chief financial officer. Previously, Goldman served as controller since April 2003 and treasurer since June 2004. Prior to Orbits, he worked for Frequency Electronics.
