Hauppauge Girls' Basketball Defeats Huntington
The Eagles overcome an early deficit with pressure defense to cruise to a 48-27 win.
The Hauppauge Eagles girls' varsity basketball team overcame an early deficit to defeat the Huntington Blue Devils, 48-27. After Huntington tallied the fix six points, Hauppauge stormed back to tie the score at 8-8 with 3:15 remaining in the first quarter. The Eagles led at the end of the first, 16-11, with junior guard Lauren Descalzo scoring 8 points.
The Blue Devils would not recover as the Eagles increased their lead to 28-15 as the second quarter ended. Both teams worked hard on defense to contain the other team's principal scoring threat. In particular, Hauppauge's defense held Huntington to 4 points in the second quarter and only 2 points in the fourth quarter.
Heroes: Hauppauge's Lauren Descalzo had a game-high 19 points, with 8 coming in the first quarter. Jacklyn Waldron was the high scorer for Huntington with 9.

Turning Point: About five minutes into the first quarter, Lindsay Alfano's basket put the Eagles into the lead for the first time in the game, 10-8, which they would never relinquish.
