Hauppauge Girls Basketball Edges Out Deer Park, Advances to Semifinals

Hauppauge girls basketball team edged out Deer Park in a nailbiter on Wednesday evening to take one step closer to their dream of winning the Suffolk County Class AA Championship.
The No. 4 Lady Eagles edged out No. 12-ranked Deer Park, 47 to 43, to the thrill of a home crowd in the second round of the playoffs on Wednesday night. It's the narrowest margin of victory in the three games the rivals have faced off: Hauppauge beat Deer Park, 54 to 48, on Jan. 19, and the Lady Eagles won 48 to 30 on Feb. 14.
Julie Williams has continued to be the power of the Lady Eagles' offense, scoring 17 points with 3 three-pointers and six free throws, according to Newsday. Lauren Descalzo also helped put Hauppauge on the board scoring 11 points and eight assists in Wednesday's game.

The win continues building Hauppauge's undefeated streak to an overall record of 20-0 for the 2011-12 season.
The Lady Eagles will face stiff competition as they advance to play against No. 1 ranked Sachem East at Farmingdale State University on Saturday, 11:30 a.m. Admission to the game costs $6.
