Hauppauge HS Hosts 'Hoops For Heroes' Basketball Game

Faculty and staff played against members of the NYPD, SCPD, Hauppauge FD, Hauppauge-CI ambulance corps and active-duty military members.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — Hauppauge High School faculty and staff faced off against members of the New York Police Department, Suffolk County Police Department, Hauppauge Fire Department, Hauppauge-Central Islip Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and active-duty military members during the district’s first Hoops for Heroes basketball game held last Friday.

The Hauppauge community filled the stands of Hauppauge High School’s gymnasium for the March Madness-style game for a good cause. The event's proceeds benefitted the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Hauppauge High School’s Share and Care charity, a nonprofit that aids students in need of help paying for school related expenses.

"The event was a massive success, raising a total of $9,548 for charity," the district wrote.

Each team was coached by the high school’s students. The varsity cheer team and teaching staff members cheered the teams on.

Ahead of the game, the entrance to the gymnasium was filled with informational booths,
concessions and raffles for visitors to enter and win.

The NYPD band performed along with Hauppauge’s pep band made up of students from grades five through 12 to usher in the players.
