Hauppauge Utility Contractor Being Investigated After Worker's Death

OSHA looks into Hawkeye after a Maine man fell his death while working for the company.

A Hauppauge utility contractor is being investigated by a federal safety agency after a Maine man fell to his death while performing working for the company on Monday. 

Newsday reports that John Plante, 44, was working as an electrical linesmen for Hawkeye LLC, a utility contractor who works for power companies thorughout the Northeast, when he fell 50 feet while attempting to descend a utility pole.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is probing Hawkeye's standard safety and procedures at the time of the accident, when it was providing services for Central Maine Power.

Plante was wearing a personal-protection safety harness while working on the 95-foot tall pole and fell roughly half its height when descending, according to Newsday.
