Hauppauge Wrestler Brings Home State Title

Chanse Menendez wins title, Adam Lepkowsky takes second in respective weight classes.

Hauppauge wrestlers brought home a championship title and second place at New York State Wrestling Tournament in Albany on Feb. 25 and 26. 

Senior Chanse Menendez won the 171 pound weight class beating out Matt Lashway, of Queensbury in Section 2, by a 9-3 in the finals. For Menendez, it was the pinnacle of a distinguished high school wrestling career. 

Menendez made Hauppauge wrestling record book in 2010, as part of Hauppauge Eagle's League V champions and second in Suffolk County, by making 24 pins in a single season. He also is noted for having an undefeated dual meet season in 2010, with a record of 22-0.

Senior Adam Lepkowsky also capped his high school career by taking second place in the 140 pound weight class. He battled his way into the finals to fall short to Connor Sutton, of La Salle in Section 2, in a 6-5 decision. 

Lepkowsky has earned a place on Hauppauge Eagle Wrestling records as among the Top 25 with the most career wins. He ranked No. 12 with 102 career wins but this does not include in the later half of the 2011 season.As a junior, Lepkowsky won a Suffolk County League V title.
