Lady Eagles Basketball Clinches Undefeated Season

Hauppauge's varsity girls basketball team beats Deer Park, 48-30, to win League IV title.

The varsity girls basketball team held strong got claim their first undefeated season in 15 years on Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles beat defending Suffolk County champs Deer Park, 48-30, to take the League IV championship title with a league record of 14-0, an overall record of 18-0 on Tuesday night. It's the first time the team has won its league title in more than 15 years.

“You know going into every season your goal is to be undefeated, whether or not it happens is another thing, you need some luck along the way, we had a couple of close games, but I give these girls all the credit in the world,” said head coach Jamie Edson to MSG Varsity.

MSG Varsity reports a key player in Tuesday night's win was senior Kasey Kephart, scoring a season-high of 12 points in the second half and contributing 10 rebounds. Prior the season finale, Kephart was averaging 3.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Lady Eagles.

All of the Lady Eagles stepped it up on the season closer that put them in a matchup against Deer Park, 9-5 league record, after a nail biter earlier in the season, according to MSG varsity. Hauppauge beat Deer Park by a closer margin, 54-48, when the two teams last played on Jan. 19.

The Lady Eagles will now have the chance to advance into the first round of the Suffolk County Class AA Playoffs that start on Friday.

In 2011, Hauppauge varsity girls basketball to lose in the first round to an undefeated North Babylon, 62-36.
