Man Killed After Running From Suffolk Crash: Police
The man went off the road and hit a tree, police say. He ran from the crash before he was hit by a truck, police say.
HAUPPAUGE, NY — A man died after he ran off from a single-car crash and was struck by a truck in Hauppauge on Wednesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
Joseph Suozzo, 60, of Jupiter, Florida, was driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Bridge Road when he veered off the road and struck a tree at 2:18 p.m., police said. Suozzo ran away and crossed onto Long Island Motor Parkway, which runs parallel to Bridge Road, and was struck by an 18-wheeler truck approximately 1,000 feet east of Milford Drive at 2:20 p.m., police said.
Suozzo was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, a 45-year-old Central Islip man, was not hurt, police said.

The truck was inspected on the scene by officers from the Motor Carrier Section. The Jeep Cherokee was impounded for a safety check.
