Ten Bretton Woods Elementary School students in Lara Damadeo’s and Veronica Weeks' math classes scored big at the Suffolk County Math Tournament, which recently was held at Stony Brook University. Coached by Veronica Weeks, the 5th grade team included: Sushant Choudhary, Keertana Madhira, Matthew Ficco, Navya Gautam and Dharmik Namineni.
At the Tournament, the students had to answer 10 difficult mathematics questions independently, and then for the second round, they worked as a team to answer 10 additional questions. Bretton Woods 4th grade team won 2nd place overall in their division, and Anthony Rodriguez won a 9th place trophy for his individual work. The 5th grade team also placed 2nd in their division. Keertana Madhira won 7th place and Matthew Ficco came in 8th for their individual competitions.
“The kids had a blast competing and spending the day on a college campus,” said their coaches. “They worked so well as a team! Bretton Woods is very proud of all the students’ hard work and dedication.”
