Nesconset Teen Drafted by Boston Bruins

Ice hockey player Rob O`Gara, 17, selected in the fifth round of the National Hockey League draft.

A Nesconset teen will start training to play for the Boston Bruins this summer.

Rob O`Gara, 17, was selected in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft, No. 151, as a Bruins prospect. He will head up to Boston for the team's annual development camp next week.

O`Gara said he was shocked as the whole situation seemed surreal. He joined the Junior Bruins ice hockey team last summer, hoping to gain experience before heading north to play for Milton Academy, a Boston-based college preparatory school. O`Gara's name quickly made its way on to the National Hockey League's "Watch List."

"At the beginning of the season, I had no idea,” he said. “I couldn’t have told you I was draft eligible."

O`Gara then helped lead the Mustangs in winning the New England prep championship for this first time in 2011. He said after development camp, his primary focus will be on helping Milton defend its championship before making plans to attend Yale University in 2012-2013.
