Roofers Union Demonstrates In Front of the Sheraton
Hauppauge-based Local 154 tries to pressure Brooklyn-based construction firm to join the union.
The Roofers union Local 154 is demonstrating in front of the Sheraton Hotel in Hauppauge this week in hopes of pressuring a Brooklyn-based construction firm hired to do the hotel's roof work to join their union.
Hauppauge-based United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers said the Sheraton Hotel hired Capital Restoration & Construction to do work on its roof, instead of hiring a unionized firm.
"We are looking to organize the company and get them on board with Local 154," said a picketer, who declined to give his name.
