California-based alternative energy firm SolarCity on Thursday announced its opening of a third New York office in Hauppauge that is still hiring in town.
SolarCity, which operates in 14 states and Washington D.C., sets up solar energy delivery for homes and businesses, for which customers pay a monthly fee, often as low as $39 a month, the company said in a statement.
“Long Island is one of the most affordable places in the country to go solar,” said Northeast Regional Vice President Ed Steins in the statement. “SolarCity allows local homeowners to lock in rates for clean electricity and save on monthly utility bills.”

The company touted New York's public-private NY-Sun program, a plan by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to exponentially increase solar power use in the state through partnerships with firms like SolarCity, as helping them to continue to grow in New York.
“Our New York expansion is bringing new local jobs, including positions as installers, engineers, electricians, project managers and salespeople,” Steins said.
