Suffolk Anti-Trafficking Hotel Law To Be Signed Monday In Hauppauge

The measure previously passed unanimously and strengthens record-keeping, restricts hourly rentals, and mandates employee training.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine is scheduled to sign a newly adopted local law Monday aimed at strengthening oversight of hotels and motels to combat human trafficking, officials said.

The 11:30 a.m. signing ceremony will take place in the Rose Y. Caracappa Auditorium inside the William H. Rogers Legislative Building. Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon, who sponsored the measure, is expected to speak alongside fellow lawmakers and advocates.

The legislation — previously reported by Patch — increases guest record-keeping requirements, restricts short-term hourly room rentals, and mandates anti-trafficking awareness training for hotel operators and employees.
