Suffolk County IDA Assists Growth of Local Clothing Manufacturer

Latest Transaction Will Help Royal Apparel Expand its Operations in Hauppauge

The Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) has approved a transaction that will help a local premium wholesaler of clothes and custom apparel expand its Hauppauge-based operations and bolster Suffolk’s manufacturing sector. The IDA’s incentive package allows Royal Apparel to move forward with plans to invest $4.68 million to purchase, renovate, equip and expand an existing 24,244 square-foot facility to support their manufacturing and distribution operations, all while creating 10 new jobs.

“Providing local businesses with incentive packages that keep operations on Long Island and create opportunities for growth is what we strive for,” said Tony Catapano, Executive Director of the Suffolk IDA. “The skilled-manufacturing sector in particular has a very high multiplier effect meaning every dollar spent on manufacturing is multiplied many times over within our local economy.”

Established in 1992, Royal Apparel is an industry leader in premium wholesale clothing and custom apparel that proudly brands their clothing with “Made in the USA.” Royal Apparel’s founders, Abraham Mayeri and Morey Mayeri, are dedicated to producing only the highest quality clothing and apparel items, even offering a 100 percent all-natural line of organic clothing made from certified organic cotton and chemical-free fibers. The company’s $4.58 million investment will be used to purchase, renovate, and equip an existing 24,244 square-foot facility, located at 91 Cabot Court in Hauppauge, as well as add an additional 12,000 square-feet to the facility. The newly refurbished 36,244 square-foot facility will host the companies various business operations, including warehousing, distribution, customer service, sales, production and accounting.

“We are excited about this new endeavor. It’s been a lifelong dream for Abe and I to have our own facility in Hauppauge. We grew up in Long Island, and it makes us proud to have the opportunity to invest and hire our fellow residents,” said Morey Mayeri, co-founder of Royal Apparel. “The demand for US manufacturing has been growing and we’re experiencing it firsthand. We are thrilled at the opportunity of establishing a manufacturing hub in Suffolk County.”

Royal Apparel is committed to producing the highest-quality clothing possible, and this mission is the driving force behind their continued success. Due to the IDA’s assistance, Royal Apparel will expand their business operations and is expected to increase its current staff of 34 in Suffolk County to 44 within the next two years to fulfill demand.

“With the IDA’s help, Royal Apparel has aligned itself to grow its business and create more jobs for Suffolk County residents,” said Kelly Morris, Deputy Executive Director of the Suffolk IDA. “Adding jobs and growing Suffolk County’s economy is the primary mission of the IDA. By temporarily lowering costs for businesses in the short term, the IDA can effectively increase the number of available jobs and expand Suffolk County’s tax base for the long term.”

The Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is a public benefit corporation of the State of New York. A recent audit of the 109 IDA’s in New York by the New York State Comptroller’s office found the Suffolk IDA to be the second greatest job creator, following only New York City. The purpose of the agency is to promote economic development within Suffolk County. The operations of the agency are not supported by taxpayer funds, but rather fees generated by the applicants. The Suffolk County IDA works in synergy with Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone and the Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning to foster positive economic development within the County.
