Suffolk County and Suffolk County IDA Approve Deal for Two Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Packaging Companies

Suffolk IDA Provides Assistance to Bactolac and Sciegen Phamaceuticals with Expanding Operations and Creating Jobs

Hauppauge, NY (November 19, 2015) - The Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency has approved a $17.5 million lease transaction package to assist the expansion of Bactolac Pharmaceutical, Inc. and Sciegen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.—manufacturers of vitamin and nutritional supplement products and low-cost solid dose generic pharmaceuticals, respectively. The companies plan to purchase 330 Oser Avenue in Hauppauge for $8.2 million, renovate the 92,000-square-foot building, and construct a 50,000-square-foot addition for the storage of raw materials.

Bactolac and Sciegen were founded in 1995 and 2009, and combined employ 468 people across seven locations in Suffolk County with an average annual salary of nearly $44,000. With IDA assistance, the companies plan to add an additional 150 jobs. The new storage space will allow for increased manufacturing and packaging operations in Bactolac and Sciegen’s current facilities.

“We are pleased that Bactolac and Sciegen will expand their businesses and stay in Suffolk County for years to come,” said Joanne Minieri, Deputy County Executive and Commissioner of Suffolk County Economic Development and Planning and Chair of the IDA Board. “Suffolk County’s growing pharmaceutical industry has been vital in creating high-quality jobs for our residents.”

Bactolac previously sought IDA assistance in 2009 to assist in building its approximately 44,000 square-foot location at 7 Oser Ave, currently used as the company’s corporate offices. Bactolac and Sciegen plan to invest approximately $7 million into the project.

“Our companies employ more than 468 Long Island residents” said Ms. Renee Reynolds, Chief Financial Officer, Bactolac Pharmaceutical Inc. and Sciegen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. “With assistance from the IDA both Bactolac and Sciegen can achieve our expansion goals, as we plan to create 150 jobs over the next two years.”

“Increasing packaging capacity is vital for both operations, and the new location in the Hauppague Industrial Park is needed to increase available space for additional manufacturing and packaging while still keeping ample storage space,” said Tony Catapano, Executive Director of the Suffolk IDA. “For companies, expansion is pertinent to staying competitive, and we’re happy to be a part of these companies’ continued success.”
