  1. Lower Manhattan Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou announced on Sunday that she plans to run for State Senate against Democratic incumbent Brian Kavanagh. The district covers all of Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. Endorsed by the Working Families Party and celebrity Cynthia Nixon, Niou is running to the left of Kavanagh, and wants to "build a city and a state that is more equitable, safer and more inclusive than it was before."   2. New York City keeps on shattering COVID-19 case records. On Sunday 22,478 people testing positive in the state, with 12,404 cases in the city. In response to the concerns of many New Yorkers over long wait times to get tested, de Blasio promised he would open far more testing sites this week.
