Hicksville Ranked Among Best Places To Live In New York 2026-27 Again

The hamlet landed in the top 5 in U.S. News & World Report's rankings, trailing only a South Shore community and one other town.

HICKSVILLE, NY — Hicksville has stayed at the top of the best places to live in New York for another year, earning the third spot in the U.S. News & World Report 2026 to 2027 rankings.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on an analysis of public data and user opinions from a February 2026 public survey. The outlet ranks the place to live based on desirability, quality of life, average wage, commute time, crime rates, unemployment rate, weather, and more.

Hicksville received a 5.8 (compared to last year's 6) out of 10 rating, ranking above the national average on the job market and median household income.

At 3 percent, Hicksville's unemployment rate is lower than the national average of 4.54 percent, making their job market appealing.

Another highlight that the report found was the median household income in Hicksville is $157,182, nearly double compared to the national median household income of $83,181.

Out of about 43,626 people who live in Hicksville, 48.3 perecent are married, and 51.7 percent are single, which is higher than the national average. Of the population, 22 percent are under 20 years old, 14 percent are between 25 and 34 years old, 13 percent are between 35 and 44 years old, 27 percent are between 45 and 65 years old, and about 18 percent are over the age of 65 years old.

An area that Hicksville lacks is a short commute time. Hicksville's average commute time of 26.48 minutes is 4.2 minutes longer than the national average, with 69.2 percent of residents choosing to drive to work. Although the Long Island Rail Road has a station in Hicksville, only 16.5 percent travel by public transit. This number has increased since last year's 3.7 percent.

Among the top 10 in New York were Massapequa and Lindenhurst, ranked first and seventh, respectively.
