Attempted Kidnapping on Long Island Leads to 3 Arrests: Police
BREAKING: A 53-year-old man was pistol-whipped and hit over the head with an ax handle during the Sunday night incident, police say.
Three people were arrested after police say they tried to kidnap a 53-year-old man from a Westbury home Sunday night.
According to authorities, two women and a man knocked on the back door of a Grand Street home at 8:40 p.m. The 53-year-old homeowner recognized one of the women, identified as 22-year-old St. Albans resident Ayeisha S. Woods, as she and another woman, 33-year-old Bronx resident Jeanette Ortiz, forced their way into the home, police say.
The resident grabbed a knife from the kitchen to defend himself as a man, identified as 29-year-old Mark Persaud, entered the home, displayed a black handgun and pointed it at the resident, police say. It was later determined that Persaud, who has no known address, displayed a pellet gun, police say.

Woods and Persaud then allegedly hit the resident over the head with the pistol and an ax handle, causing him multiple lacerations to his head and face.
Police say Woods took the keys to the man’s 2014 Ford Edge, and as she was in the driveway, responding detectives arrived. Woods shifted the car into reverse and drove at a high rate of speed, forcing the officers to jump out of the way to avoid being struck, police say.

The officers followed the vehicle in an attempt to pull her over when police say Woods lost control of the car and struck a parked vehicle on Roosevelt Court. She was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The Westbury resident was treated and released from a local hospital for injuries he sustained during the incident.
Persaud and Ortiz fled the home but were later located inside a room at the Pines Motor Lodge, located at 101 Taylor Ave. in Westbury, and Special Operations officers were able to talk them out of the room, according to authorities. They were placed under arrest without further incident.
- Woods was charged with first-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy, aggravated attempted assault, second-degree assault, third-degree grand larceny and reckless driving.
- Persaud was charged with first-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy and second-degree assault.
- Ortiz was charged with first-degree burglary.
They will be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
