Baby Girl, Mother Healthy After Police Assist In Home Birth: Police

Police say the woman was in labor when they were called to her Westbury home.

WESTBURY, NY. — A 35-year-old woman and her newborn daughter are stable and healthy Tuesday after police officers stepped in to help deliver the baby at a Westbury home Monday morning.

Nassau County police said they received a call at 2:30 a.m. Monday, dispatching third-precinct officers to the home to assist the woman in labor. With assistance from department medics, police said the officers were able to deliver the baby girl. The medics cut the umbilical cord and the mother was taken to the hospital for postpartum care in a police department ambulance, police said.

Just after 9:30 a.m. Monday, police said both mother and daughter were in stable condition.
