'Color Me Calm' Program Aids Local Charity

NEW CASSEL, NY—Participants in the "Color Me Calm" program have been working on a charity project where they've been creating placemats to be donated to Long Island Cares and collecting non-perishable goods for their food bank, the Town of North Hempstead announced. Participants from the Project Independence exercise classes and discussion groups also helped contribute food.

Long Island Cares is a charity with the goal of "feeding America" as a hunger assistance organization.

"Our mission is to bring together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry on Long Island, and provide to the best of our ability for the humanitarian needs of our community," it reads on the Long Island Cares Get to Know Us page.

The "Color Me Calm" participants drew the attention of North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Council Member Viviana Russell, who attended the year-end celebration for the Project Independence programs held on June 21 at the “Yes We Can” Community Center. Town officials thanked the program members for their hard work and dedication towards aiding a local charity.
