Fire At Apartment Complex Displaces Residents In New Cassel
BREAKING: About 60 residents were evacuated from the blaze on Thursday night, police say.
Residents of a New Cassel apartment building have been displaced due to a fire that broke out on Thursday night, police say.
According to authorities, police officers responded to a report of a fire at an apartment complex on the 700-block of Prospect Avenue at 6:52 p.m. About 60 residents were evacuated from the surrounding units while firefighters battled the blaze that was located in an empty apartment.
No resident injuries were reported although three police officers suffered smoke inhalation and were treated and released from an area hospital.

Officials are investigating the fire but it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
In response to the displaced residents, Red Cross set up a shelter at the Yes We Can Community Center in Westbury.
