5 Rescued From New Cassel House Fire: Police

Quick-moving Nassau County police officers saved five people from a burning multi-family home in New Cassel last night.

NEW CASSEL — Quick-moving Nassau County police officers roused five New Cassel residents just in time to bring them to safety from their burning homes last night, police said.

Police Officer McGraw, who was making nightly rounds in the neighborhood of Urban Avenue, saw the smoke coming from a multi-family home at about 9:45 p.m., according to police. Two people, who were unaware of the fire, were brought outside to safety, police said. Three other people in an adjoining residence were rescued by assisting officers, Milazzo and Mckiel.

The Nassau County Police Department does not release the first names of police officers.

No one was uninjured in the fire. The Westbury Fire Department was able to get the fire under control, but the residents were displaced for the night and required assistance from the American Red Cross, police said.

It is not clear how the fire started. The investigation is ongoing.
