Going For The Gold: Hicksville School Hosted Olympic Ceremony

Elementary school students celebrated the 2026 Winter Olympics with a schoolwide event complete with flags and a handmade torch.

HICKSVILLE, NY — Burns Avenue Elementary students participated in their very own Olympic ceremony in celebration of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The Hicksville school held a schoolwide Olympic opening ceremony on Feb. 5 in the gymnasium, where students raised flags they had drawn in class.

With a Burns Avenue banner displayed proudly by students, a handmade Olympic torch was passed from participant to participant before being placed on the presentation podium.

Students learned about the history and traditions of the Olympic Games, including the lighting of the torch, as well as the many countries and cultures represented around the world.
