Mets Tickets Offered For Donors At Hicksville Blood Drive

HICKSVILLE, NY — As if helping the community wasn't enough, organizers at a Hicksville blood drive Wednesday are sweetening the deal.

In a Facebook post Wednesday afternoon, Montesano, 64, wrote that blood supply is "very low." He encouraged people to come to the firehouse near East Marie Street and South Broadway in Hicksville to donate. The blood drive begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m.

Those who do will receive a sweet gift.

"All donors will receive 2 Mets tickets for a game of their choice," he wrote.

Montesano, a Republican, represents Assembly District 15, including parts of Hicksville, Oyster Bay, Bayville, Syosset, Woodbury, Bethpage and Farmingdale.

Blood banks are always looking for people willing to donate, a flyer for the event said.

"The blood YOU donate today can save someone’s life tomorrow," the flyer said.

Donors must be between 16 and 75 years old and bring valid photo or signature ID. Teens who are 16 must have parental permission and those over 75 must bring a doctor's note to donate.

Moreover, donors weigh at least 110 pounds and not have gotten a tattoo within the last calendar year. Those interested in donating should also eat well and stay hydrated prior to the appointment.

Montesano told Patch in a Facebook message Wednesday he did not donate.
