Hicksville Residents May See Discolored Water This Week

HICKSVILLE, NY — Hicksville residents could see discolored water over the next few days as water officials flush water mains.

The Hicksville Water District announced Monday it began flushing mains throughout its service area Sunday and will continue to do so through Thursday. The flushing is routine maintenance designed to remove any build-up of dissolved materials that may have settled.

"Our water mains are flushed each year to protect the integrity of the water supply and to continuously provide residents with the high quality water they have come to expect," the water district said.

Flushing will happen between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to minimize disruptions for residents.

"Slight water pressure variations or discolored water conditions may occur during this period, but please remember that the water is absolutely safe to drink," the district said.

Those doing laundry overnight should be aware machines could also see discolored water.

Discoloration is temporary though and those who see it should run cold water through the tap until the water clears.
