Nassau Woman Scammed Out Of More Than $40,000: Police
The phone scheme had unknown men claiming the victim's sister was in a car accident and money was needed for her bail, police said.
HICKSVILLE, NY — A Hicksville woman was the victim of a phone scam, as she handed over more than $40,000. It started on Friday afternoon, when the 59-year-old received a call from a man purported to be a bail bondsman.
He told the woman that her sister had been arrested after a car accident caused injuries to a pregnant woman, police said.
The person on the other end requested $15,500 for bail. She withdrew the money and someone picked up the money at the woman's house, authorities said.

An hour later, the victim received another phone call. This time a man claimed to be a court officer, who requested $27,000 as civil compensation for the pregnant woman suffering a miscarriage, according to police.
The victim withdraw the funds. A short time later, a driver, once again, arrived at her location to take the money. Thereafter, the victim realized that she had been scammed and contacted police, who are investigating.
