From Hicksville School:Congratulations to Hicksville Middle School’s robotics teams, the Meteorites and Meteorites Squared, who competed at the School Business Partnership of Long Island’s First Lego League Qualifying Tournament at Mineola High School in January.
Both teams performed extremely well, as the Meteorites won the first-place award while Meteorites Squared placed fourth overall. As a result, both have advanced to the Long Island championship that will be held on March 3 at Longwood High School. As the top team in the competition, the Meteorites earned the top score in Robot Design and as a result received the Robot Performance Award. The award recognizes a team that scores the most points during the robot game. The team also received the Alliance Award for their collaboration with Longwood Middle School.
This award is given to the two teams who score the most when working together as a team. The Meteorites also earned the Core Value Inspiration Award, which celebrates a team that displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit. In addition to taking fourth place overall, the Meteorites Squared earned the Core Value Gracious Professionalism Award, which recognizes the team which best shows respect to each other and other teams at all times. Twenty-eight teams competed at the qualifying tournament, with only seven advancing to the championship level. This year’s theme for the competition is “Into Orbit.” Carol Anne Brucato and Catherine Temps coach the Meteorites and the Meteorites Squared. Best of luck to both squads on March 3!
