House Set Ablaze After Being Struck By Lightning
The three-story home was heavily damaged during Monday's storm. A downed power line also burned in a nearby parking lot.
HICKSVILLE, NY — A Hicksville house caught fire after it was struck by lightning at the start of Monday's severe thunderstorm, officials said.
The Hicksville Fire Department responded to the home, located at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Desmond Place, at 6:21 p.m. Firefighters found the fire in the attic of the three-story home, and the Syosset Fire Department was called to the scene for a ladder truck.
Crews extinguished the fire, but the home was heavily damaged.

Across the street on Desmond Place, firefighters secured an area around a downed power line that was burning in a parking lot. The power authority quickly arrived and shut down the power. Both incidents were under the command of Robert Chiz, chief of the department.
