Man Caught With Stolen Laptop, Safe in Westbury: Police

A Hempstead man was arrested Monday for burglarizing a Westbury home after police say they found a laptop and a safe in his possession.

According to authorities, officers were responding to a burglary in progress at a Aster Place South home at 1:10 p.m. when they saw a man fitting a description of the burglar at the corner of Old Country Road and Brooklyn Avenue.

The man, identified as 21-year-old Damien Onwubuemeli, was placed under arrest and authorities subsequently found a laptop and a small safe, which were proceeds from the burglary, in his possession, police say.

Onwubuemeli was charged with second-degree burglary. He was arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
