Person Struck by LIRR Train, Expect Delays and Cancellations For Evening Rush

The LIRR is telling commuters to expect systemwide delays and cancellations during the evening rush after a person was struck by a train at the Westbury station around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The most delays and cancellations will be on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches. LIRR officials are recommending commuters consider using alternate branches for eastbound service.

The train that hit the person was the 4:51 p.m. train from Penn Station due in Ronkonkoma at 6:04 p.m.

The person who was hit was not authorized to be on the tracks, LIRR officials said. There has been no word yet on the extent of the person's injuries.
