Scrap Metal Truck Overturns In Early-Morning Accident

HICKSVILLE, NY — A dump truck hauling scrap metal overturned early Monday morning and spilled diesel and hydraulic fuel into the roadway at the intersection of Charlotte Ave. and West Old Country Road, officials said. The driver of the vehicle was self-extricated and evaluated at the scene.

Nassau County police officer and Hicksville volunteer firefighters responded to the call at 4:42 a.m. Monday and found the truck overturned. Hicksville hazardous materials personnel stopped the fuel leak and off-loaded the hydraulic fluid. West-bound West Old Country Road was closed as was Charlotte Ave., officials said.
