UPDATED: Police ID Woman Killed After SUV Crashes Into 2 Bicyclists, Home in Hicksville

The woman was riding bikes with her father when they were struck by the vehicle Wednesday afternoon, police say.

UPDATED with additional information Thursday at 5:25 p.m.:

A Hicksville woman was killed Wednesday afternoon after police say she and her father were struck by an SUV while riding bicycles in Hicksville.

According to authorities, Cari Widmyer, 43, and her father, 72, were riding their bikes northbound on New South Road when they were struck by a 2002 Ford Explorer, operated by a 57-year-old woman, traveling southbound before it crossed the road into oncoming traffic at around 2:40 p.m.

The SUV also side-swiped a 2009 Nissan Altima and crashed into a house, located at 88 New South Road, causing extensive damage to the home, police say.

The Widmyer was pronounced dead at the scene and the father was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a knee injury. He was treated and released.

Two people in the SUV were taken to a hospital to be treated for superficial wounds. The driver suffered cuts to her arms and contusions to her chest and the passenger, a 65-year-old man, suffered contusions to his head.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

The Explorer was impounded from the scene for brake and safety checks. Police do not suspect criminality at this time and the investigation is continuing.
