1 Dead In Crash On Northern State Parkway Early Christmas Morning: Police

It happened near Exit 51, New York State police say.

DIX HILLS, NY — A man died in an early morning crash involving a large commercial truck that flipped over on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills on Christmas morning, the New York State police said.

Troopers were called to the eastbound side of the parkway, east of Exit 41, Wolf Hill Road, at around 6:24 a.m., according to the police.

The driver of the truck, Osmond Duarte, 21, was found dead in the roadway, police said, adding that an investigation found he was driving a 2011 Hino commercial flatbed truck at an unsafe speed, when he lost control of it, and it struck the center median and overturned.

Duarte was subsequently ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
